In the fall of 2015 while fishing the Lord appeared to me as with the disciples in John 21, reminding me that He did not call me to chase flounders, stripers or catfish, but rather the souls of men. He further reminded me of my calling from Isaiah 42:6-9 and then charged me as He did Peter in Luke 22, “when thou art converted strengthen the brethren”. With that, “A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify; A never dying soul to save and fit it for the sky”.

January 15, 2018; 1685 Armstrong Ford Road was acquired and Calvary Life Center was given birth to with just a handful of believers. They cleaned, painted & prepared the building physically, while consecrating the building through Prayer & Bible Study with Sunday Morning services beginning January 21st. On July 6th Rev. Dr. Beverly Ashburn of Friendship Baptist Church, Newport News, Va officially installed Valante & Theressa Smith-Perry as the Senior Pastoral Team & Dedicated Calvary Family Worship Center’s 1st home.

During May 2020 in the face of a very challenging year due to the COVID pandemic the Lord led Bishop to shorten our name to Calvary Life Center. In December of this same year our beloved 1^st Lady was called to her eternal reward. Bishop reminded us that our experiences do not define God’s promises to us and that His word declares,” Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it”. 1 Thessalonians 5:24
